DISTRICT 96 EARNS NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR EXEMPLARY MATHEMATICS INSTRUCTION

Mathematics teaching practices in District 96 rank in the top ten in the nation, as assessed by the National Mathematics Advisory Panel.

The panel selected District 96 and, specifically, Twin Groves Middle School to highlight in the See What Works feature of the U.S. Department of Education website Doing What Works. The USDE website is dedicated to helping teachers implement effective educational practices.

The website highlights best practices for educators. The site features Twin Groves Principal Marie Schalke, math teachers Cathy Alland, Wendy Loeb, and Terri Porto, and Director of Curriculum and Instruction Paul Louis explaining application of the District’s power standards (that is, what teachers agree that students need to know), their use of benchmarks and assessments to evaluate students’ learning, and their approach to differentiating instruction for advanced students and those who struggle.

Visit the website (http://www.ed.gov), featuring District 96 staff.
